2005 Spring River Clean-up

The SBWA held its 15th Annual Spring River Clean Up on Saturday, April 16th. Over 450 community members volunteered their time to clean up 18 sites throughout the watershed. Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H, Round Valley Trout Association, Alpha Phi Omega from Rutgers University, Hunterdon Youth Services, Readington Middle School, local environmenal commission members, and many other concerned citizens and community groups participated in the clean up.

Over two tons of garbage were removed from local waterways and the surrounding land. Interesting items collected at various sites included cans of tar, "No Dumping" sign, hockey puck, wooden gate, crutch, trashcan, bed frame, garden hose, muffler, storm door, table, and a fuse box! For the participants, it was a great way to make a big difference in the communities in which they live, work, and play.

Local sponsors helped to make the event possible. Raritan Valley Disposal collected the garbage from all 18 sites; Shop-Rite of Flemington and Clinton provided morning snacks for all participants; Hunterdon County Utilities Authority provided bags and gloves; Team Graphics designed the t-shirts; Special T's waived the set up fees for printing the t-shirts; and 14 local municipalities provided additional funding support. The event was a great success due to the support and participation of our many sponsors and volunteers!
