Thanks to these 800 volunteers, the South Branch Watershed Association’s (SBWA) 18th Annual Stream Clean-Up that was held on Saturday, April 19th, was their largest yet!

Participants included many concerned individuals and community groups such as Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Somerset 4-H, Round Valley Trout Association, Hunterdon Youth Services, MADE, Timberland, Zion Lutheran Church, Or Chadash Temple, Whitehouse United Methodist Church Green Team, Neshanic United Methodist Church, Nestle Waters, Idearc Media Group, MetLife, Rutgers University Catholic Graduate Group, IFF, and several local Environmental Commissions.

Over 4 tons of trash was removed from our local streams and surrounding land. Interesting items collected at our 20 sites included a hubcap, shoe, license plate, pallet, vacuum cleaner, wood stove, water heater, bowling ball, skateboard, underwear, mattress, mop, toilet seat, plastic swimming pool, garbage can, and a bicycle.

Local sponsors also helped to make this event possible. Shop-Rite of Flemington and Clinton provided refreshments; Hunterdon County Utilities Authority provided funding, bags, and gloves; Team Graphics provided the t-shirt design; Special T’s donated the t-shirt set up fees; Raritan Valley Disposal removed the collected trash; and 14 local municipalities provided additional funding support.

This event was a great success due to the support and participation of SBWA’s many sponsors and volunteers!
